Alexander the Great Marathon 2027: where to stay

The International Marathon “Alexander the Great” is confirmed for Sunday 4 April 2027. The marathon runs from Pella to the Thessaloniki waterfront, where the 10 km and 5 km road races also finish beside the statue of Alexander the Great. One race morning shapes a spring weekend.

Confirmed date and official race information

The organiser, MEAS Triton, and the AIMS race calendar both give Sunday 4 April 2027. The marathon starts in Pella by the statue of Alexander the Great, close to the archaeological site, and finishes on Megalou Alexandrou Avenue on the Thessaloniki waterfront; the 10 km, 5 km and children’s races share that finish. This guide does not confirm start times, entry windows or transport arrangements; use the organiser’s pages for those.

The waterfront closes for the finish on race morning. Check the organiser’s traffic notice and the year of any page you open before planning transfers or a Sunday checkout.

Choose a base for the finish and the early start

The finish beside the statue sits just east of the White Tower on the new waterfront, so the eastern centre keeps the walk back shortest on tired legs. Aristotelous and the central core stay within a flat fifteen minutes and offer the widest choice of rooms.

Marathon runners leave early for Pella, about 45 km west of the city, so a base near the organiser’s departure point matters more than the view. Ano Poli means stairs after the finish; choose lower or plan a taxi.

Arrival, transfers to Pella and road closures

Use the airport guide for arrival and check the current service to your address. With a car, confirm the property’s parking and expect the waterfront and its cross streets to close on Sunday morning; the driving guide covers parking and arrival by car.

Ask the organiser how runners reach the Pella start and whether it provides transport; the answer decides whether you sleep near the departure point or near the finish. Companions can watch from the waterfront and meet you at an agreed point after the line.

Meals, companions and booking order

Eat a familiar meal on Saturday near your base and book the post-race lunch close to the finish, where the waterfront cafés fill quickly. The Night Half Marathon in October has the same organiser, so runners can compare both guides.
