Thessaloniki shopping guide: streets, markets and malls

Shop the right part of Thessaloniki for the day you actually have.

The centre gives the best first shopping walk; the food markets change its rhythm. The western outlet and eastern mall are deliberate trips, not extra stops on the same short stroll.

At a glance: For a first visit, start on Tsimiski, turn to Mitropoleos and Proxenou Koromila, then cross toward Kapani and Modiano for food. Choose One Salonica for outlet shopping or Mediterranean Cosmos for an east-side mall day only when that is the main purpose.

A centre route that makes sense

Begin on Tsimiski for the broadest retail corridor. Turn toward Mitropoleos and Proxenou Koromila when boutiques and a slower browse matter more than covering every chain.

Cross Aristotelous toward Kapani and the covered Agora Modiano for food shops and a meal. Keep market shopping separate from a promise that every stall will be open; check the current operator pages.

Make the east or west trip deliberately

One Salonica sits at the western gateway on Kotta Roulia Street. Treat it as an outlet destination with its own transfer, not as a continuation of Tsimiski on foot.

Mediterranean Cosmos sits in Pylaia, east of the centre. It works when shopping, food and cinema share one day, especially if your wider plan already takes you east. Neither mall makes Stavroupoli or Evosmos an automatic shopping base.

Hours, access and final checks

  • Check a named store or market stall directly before crossing town for it.
  • Check Sunday and holiday trading on the operator’s current page; do not infer it from restaurant hours.
  • If driving, confirm the mall or garage parking rules and the exact return route before leaving.
  • If carrying purchases, choose the final stop close to your accommodation or onward transport.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I shop on a first Thessaloniki visit?

Start with Tsimiski and the nearby Mitropoleos–Proxenou Koromila streets, then add Kapani or Modiano for food. This keeps the first outing walkable without an unnecessary mall transfer.

Is One Salonica in Stavroupoli or Evosmos?

No. The operator places One Salonica at the western gateway on Kotta Roulia Street. It is a separate outlet trip and does not make either western municipality a default shopping district.

Should I choose One Salonica or Mediterranean Cosmos?

Choose One Salonica when the outlet format is the reason for the trip. Choose Mediterranean Cosmos for a mall day on the eastern side, especially if food or cinema is also planned. Check both operators before travelling.
